Meet Vanessa Powers
In addition to her film work, Vanessa is a theater director, visual artist, coffee enthusiast, and occasionally, a human being. She is usually found trying to be in too many places at once. She is the resident director at SMCT in Columbia Heights, and she has done theater work at Lakeshore Players Theater, Cross Community Players, and as part of the MN Fringe Festival. She has also produced theatrical work independently under the company name, ‘Oxford Comma Theater.’ In her (clearly abundant) free time, she can be found spending time with her supportive family, friends, and snort-tastic bulldogs.
SYNOPSIS:
Betty, a high school student from a strict, traditional family, discovers that she is pregnant. She finds help in an unlikely ally, Emma, her sullen goth classmate, who suggests they summon a demon to remedy the situation.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:
The idea for this film came into my head that day that Roe v. Wade was overturned. Horror has always been a genre that can be utilized to inspect issues which are controversial or taboo. Reproductive Rights are a topic that is VERY near and dear to my heart, and as a woman filmmaker I wanted to use this medium to make a statement, to shout into the void, and to try to change a few minds or hearts.
